HIKE #5: Hiking through Drahaň-Troja nature park with mysterious vibes

Open in Mapy.cz

Last weekend I managed to go for another hike at snowy Prague. I was lucky because now is few days later and the snow is gone. With this post I am going to recall myself those beautiful Winter day.

I walked through a hidden wild valley, found an abandoned old factory for dynamite! and visited a ruin of chapel in the Cemetery of Fools. This hiking had pretty mysterious atmosphere…

ATTENTION: I marked this hike as #for-adventure which means that to accomplish this good orientation skills are required. Also be aware that some parts can be detached from marked walking paths.

So what about the that dynamite factory and the Cemetery of Fools?

The first I discovered by accident, the second I knew about and actually planned my hike with a goal to visit that cemetery.

In the gorge called Zámecká rokle is located an areal of old abandoned factory that is possible to see from above while walking the suggested hiking path. It was year 1870 when the Hamburg company Albert Nobel a spol. opened this first and only dynamite factory in the Czech Republic. Remains of factory buildings are still located there and they are inaccessible to the public.

Not far from the remains of dynamite factory is possible to visit a former cemetery in Bohnice, which is also known as the Cemetery of Fools. The cemetery was used for the inmates of near psychiatric hospital, but the cemeteries of their nurses and nuns, local workers and clerks can also be found in there. The place has its mysterious atmosphere, the whole cemetery is completely overgrown with ivy and you will find there also ruins of a small chapel.

Interesting places, right?

This hike I went alone, so you can maybe imagine that it could spiritually pretty intensive. 🙂

During the hike I was also rewarded with picturesque views of the Vltava and the blue sky. If you are more into that kind things and river views, I recommend to visit for that especially the area of ancient fortified settlement called Zámka.

Check out the photos and share this post if you like it…

Enjoy!
